Colorado is freeing up more money to help pay for fighting the wildfire burning near Loveland.
The 700-acre blaze is the second major fire to break out in a week along the Front Range and Colorado’s emergency fund doesn’t have enough money left to pay for it.
An executive order issued Monday provides up to $3 million to be spent fighting the fire near Loveland. However, the state is taking $2.9 million from an insurance fund to make up for the lack of money in the emergency fund.
Last week, Gov. Bill Ritter authorized $5.2 million to be spent on the fire that destroyed at least 166 homes near Boulder.
The latest order was signed by Senate President Brandon Shaffer because Ritter and Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien are both out of state
